2014 American Legion Events

There will be a re-dedication of the Clayton Playground on Thursday, June 12. Please help support the town. If available, the Color Guard will meet at the park at 1PM to be there for ceremony.

Flag Day is Saturday June 14, we will be at the Clayton Fire hall on Graves St. to retire the flags that have been brought in for a proper disposal. If there are any tattered or worn flags please respect it and retire them then replace it with a new one.

“The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”

The Flag Code does not actually give specifics on how to destroy the flag. One should use common sense making sure the procedure is in good taste and shows no disrespect for the flag. Many of the following organizations have collections in your local community to collect and perform a flag burning ceremony: American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, Mayor, City Hall or other patriotic organizations.”

Friday June 13 Flag Day will be recognized at TI School. Color Guard are asked to attend if available. Meet at the Legion at 1230

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in honor of the victims of the marathon bombing in Boston, MA.

“I join with my fellow New Yorkers and Americans in mourning the loss of the innocent lives that were taken in yesterday’s terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon,” Governor Cuomo said. “I extend my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the victims, as well as the residents of Boston.”

Post #821 and Clayton Chamber Adopt-A-Platoon

The American Legion Post #821 and the Clayton Chamber of Commerce have sponsored a new platoon from the 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum. There are 52 soldiers that are in the platoon and will be deploying to Afghanistan.

We have had a great response from the post members and the community with our last Adopt-A-Platoon. Please continue to support our troops. A new box will be located at the post in the near future for donations. Any items can be broght in and also be taken to the Chammber of commerce.

Honor Flight

The Honor Flight has completed Mission #2 out of Syracuse, NY. It was great to get our WWII veterans to visit their memorials in Washington DC.

We have 5 WWII Veterans that went! They are: Joseph Bogonian, Jack Ducat, Donald Frickman, Richard Hof, and Bob Williams.

Please see “Legion Events” for further details.

Honor Flight is a Not-For-Profit Organization (maintained strictly by donations) that flies WWII veterans and their guardians to Washington D.C. to visit the WWII Memorial.  It is way past time that these veterans were recognized.  Post 821 currently had 5 vets go on this program.
